PVA Submits Comments on Accessible EV Charging Stations
By PVA Staff
On June 22, the Federal Highway Administration (FTA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), published a request for comments in response to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Plan provides funding for accessible EV chargers. The proposed standards and requirements apply to installation, operation, and maintenance of EV chargers; signage; data; and public information.
PVA submitted a comment in response to the NPRM. We urged FTA to ensure that charging stations adhere to physical accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Architectural Barriers Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
PVA requested FTA engage with the disability community when developing its standards. PVA also offered ideas on accessible payment processes. In addition, PVA highlighted the importance of making information on accessible charging stations available to the public.
