United Spinal Association and Airbnb.org Launch Emergency Housing Initiative for LA Wildfire-Affected Wheelchair Users
Airbnb.org is providing up to 30 days of accessible accommodation for eligible wheelchair users displaced by the Los Angeles-area wildfires. The initiative addresses the severe shortage of ADA-compliant rooms in the region as evacuation costs mount for survivors.
Through United Spinal’s Ready to Roll disaster relief program, affected individuals can access Airbnb.org bookings. Applications are now open for eligible wheelchair users.
“Overcoming the challenges presented to people with disabilities by natural disasters requires the formation of a united front by non-profits, the government, and leading enterprises,” said Vincenzo Piscopo, United Spinal President/CEO. “We cannot tackle these crises alone. I am deeply honored to partner with Airbnb.org to support wheelchair users impacted by the California fires. This collaboration exemplifies the critical role of collective action in relief and recovery.”
United Spinal’s Ready to Roll program, supported by the Neilsen Foundation, has provided critical grants to natural disaster survivors for nearly a decade. These funds help wheelchair users rebuild accessible homes, replace medical equipment and vehicles and manage evacuation costs. The Airbnb.org partnership now adds crucial temporary housing support to these services.
